Eckington got into the festive spirit today and hosted a Christmas Market in the middle of the town.

Between 25 and 30 stall holders sold homemade crafts and small gifts in the local Civic Centre, as well as outside on Market Street which was cordoned off especially.

The event, which started at noon and ended at around 8pm, was organised by Eckington Town Team – with the aim of bringing the local community together.

This was the fourth year they had run the event and there was a variety of entertainment on offer, including a brass band, disco and glow dancers.

Member of the Town Team, Bev Gash, 53, said: “It was slow to start, but it’s picking up brilliantly. Everyone’s doing well and there’s lots to see and lots to do.

“It’s just to put something back, really.

“I think community is something that we’ve lost generally and I would like to see things improve and more people coming together across generations as well.”
